Functional Anatomy in Yoga & Vinyasa Technique with Gabriele Musetti

On 13–14 March 2027, Gabriele Musetti – yoga teacher and physical education specialist from Italy – comes to Vilnius. This is his first workshop in Lithuania, where he will share his knowledge of how the body really works in yoga practice.

Over two days we will explore why and how we perform movements and postures: how breath and bandhas stabilise the joints, how to deepen backbends and hip mobility safely, and how to make transitions lighter. You will experience functional anatomy in a practical way – improving your body awareness, learning to prevent injuries and building your practice more consciously.

The workshop is for the yoga community – practitioners and teachers who want to grow both personally and professionally. Learning, practice and community in one space.

  • Clear anatomical and biomechanical cues you can apply in your own practice or when teaching.
  • Knowledge of all 9 bandhas and how to apply them in asana.
  • Functional breathing and pranayama skills – greater breathing capacity and depth.
  • Injury prevention: pain-free backbends, safe hip mobility, knee protection.
  • Lighter and safer transitions: jump back and jump through technique, core strength.
  • A 12-hour Yoga Alliance CE certificate for your professional development.
  • Community with fellow practitioners and the experience of an international teacher, here in Vilnius.

Who it is for

At the heart of the workshop

The 9 bandhas: more than three “locks”

In many yoga classes you hear about mula bandha, uddiyana bandha or jalandhara bandha. In truth, these are just three of nine. In this workshop we treat bandhas not only as “locks”, but as precise co-activations of opposing muscle groups around nine key joint complexes. Done correctly, each bandha acts as a muscular stabiliser, protecting the joint and creating intelligent pressure gradients that move energy, blood and information through the body.

Central (spine)

  • Jalandhara – neck
  • Uddiyana – upper back / thoracic spine
  • Mula – lower back / pelvis

Upper limb

  • Amsa – shoulder
  • Kurpara – elbow
  • Mani – wrist

Lower limb

  • Kati – hip
  • Janu – knee
  • Kulpha – ankle

Together they form a neuromuscular map of control that supports every posture. Applied systematically, they offer strength and stability, enhance flexibility, reduce injury risk and promote the flow of prana and clarity of mind. You will learn:

  • how to safely engage and layer bandhas in different postures;
  • the difference between ha-bandhas (compressive) and tha-bandhas (expansive);
  • how the pressure dynamics created by bandhas influence circulation, pranayama and even digestion.

Programme

Two-day programme

Saturday, 13 March

9:00–11:00

Pranayama, bandha & vinyasa practice

A guided sequence with specific anatomical and biomechanical cues, to build awareness and understand WHY and HOW we perform movements and postures.

11:30–13:30

Jump back / jump through & core strength

We strengthen the torso and upper body to condition joints and muscles for safe transitions, working with fear and stress in jumps and creating lightness in both jumping forward and jumping through.

13:30–14:30 lunch break

14:30–17:00

Pain-free backbends

“You are as old as your spine.” We approach backbends from an anatomical perspective, with spinal movement and joint mobility work, progressively building a solid foundation for Urdhva Dhanurasana, Dhanurasana and their variations.

Gabriele Musetti – Urdhva Dhanurasana

Sunday, 14 March

9:00–11:00

Pranayama, bandha & vinyasa practice

We continue the morning practice, going deeper into breathing dynamics, the relationship between the thoracic and pelvic diaphragms, and applying the bandhas within a sequence.

11:30–13:30

Psoas – diaphragm – core: a deep relationship

Specific exercises to develop strength and support for asanas involving the psoas, understanding its connection with the diaphragm and deep abdominal muscles, and applying this to transitions where we want lightness.

13:30–14:30 lunch break

14:30–17:00

Hip mobility & knee protection

The technique, anatomy and learning steps to work safely with deep hip mobility: Half Lotus and Full Lotus, Eka Pada Sirsasana (leg behind the head) and variations.

Gabriele Musetti – hip mobility

At the end of the weekend, participants who attend both days receive a 12-hour Yoga Alliance Continuing Education certificate, specifically focused on Vinyasa.

About Gabriele Musetti

A graduate in Sports Science, Gabriele completed his academic training with a thesis entitled “Functional Anatomy in Yoga”. This research led to an e-book and to the founding of a School of Functional and Experimental Anatomy applied to Yoga, which combines scientific knowledge with the practice of conscious movement.

He works as a personal trainer, in person and online, offering a comprehensive and holistic approach to movement and physical education, centred on body awareness and functional well-being. Since 2017 he has taught workshops, retreats, events and training courses in Italy and abroad, promoting a vision of the body as a tool for knowledge, balance and personal transformation.
